Rajdhani Express Now Stops at Sivasagar Town Station, Boosting Rail Connectivity in Upper Assam

Guwahati, Feb 13: The long-pending request for a stoppage of the Rajdhani Express at Sivasagar Town railway station has been realised, bringing a major improvement in rail connectivity for Upper Assam. The development comes after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intervened to facilitate the inclusion of the historic town in the premier train’s schedule.

Starting Thursday, the Dibrugarh–New Delhi Rajdhani Express began its official halt at Sivasagar Town Railway Station. The addition of the stoppage is expected to benefit passengers from Sivasagar and neighbouring areas by providing more convenient access to direct rail services to the national capital.

The decision follows an appeal made on February 4 by local journalists, who had called on the government to arrange for the Rajdhani Express to stop at Sivasagar Town station in the interest of regional travellers. Responding to the request, the Chief Minister initiated discussions with railway authorities, leading to the completion of necessary formalities for the new halt.

At 9:20 pm on Thursday, the Dibrugarh–New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express arrived at Sivasagar Town station for its scheduled stop, allowing passengers to board and disembark. The occasion was marked by a formal flag-off, signifying the beginning of regular stoppage services at the station.

Residents welcomed the swift action, noting that the new halt would make long-distance travel more accessible and convenient, especially for those journeying to New Delhi. The move is being viewed as a significant step towards strengthening rail infrastructure and connectivity in Upper Assam.
