Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh on December 7 inaugurated and dedicated 125 newly completed infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), marking a major push to enhance India’s frontier connectivity and defence readiness. The projects, spread across seven states and two Union Territories, were executed at a combined cost of ₹5,000 crore.
The inauguration took place from Ladakh’s Shyok Tunnel, a 920-metre cut-and-cover structure built on a strategically crucial route. Singh also launched BRO’s first 3D-printed HAD Complex in Chandigarh, underscoring the organisation’s growing adoption of advanced engineering techniques.
The latest portfolio includes 28 roads, 93 bridges and four key strategic facilities, significantly improving access to remote border regions.
In Arunachal Pradesh, seven bridges under Project Brahmank were inaugurated from Raneghat/Pasighat in East Siang district, covering the Shi-Yomi and Siang valley regions. The Shene Bridge on the Tato–Menchuka road has emerged as a key asset due to its location in difficult terrain and its importance to both defence logistics and tourism in the Menchuka valley.
Five additional bridges — Ritbung, Rabung, Seyo, Raboung and Sirak — completed along the Ditte–Dimme road are expected to strengthen mobility and uplift socio-economic activities across isolated frontier locations. Another bridge, Naglung Ri, was opened on the Tuting–Bona route, further enhancing last-mile connectivity in the Siang Valley.
Officials noted that the newly inaugurated structures will play a vital role in improving accessibility, supporting local livelihoods and facilitating the movement of defence personnel and equipment.
Although the central ceremony was held in Ladakh, state leaders and officials from Arunachal Pradesh joined virtually from Aalo/Along and Yingkiong. Minister for Law and Justice Kento Jini praised BRO’s resilience and engineering excellence, saying the organisation had consistently delivered in some of India’s most challenging landscapes.
Rajnath Singh reaffirmed that robust border infrastructure is essential for national security, regional development and economic integration. He commended BRO for turning remote border areas into gateways of progress and emphasised the government’s continued focus on expanding strategic connectivity across the country’s most difficult terrain.
