Silchar: Assam’s Minister for Panchayat & Rural Development, General Administration, Tourism and Judicial Departments, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, chaired a high-level review meeting on Sunday with the Cachar district administration and heads of all departments at the new conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The meeting was attended by Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome, Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, Cachar Zilla Parishad Chairman Kankan Narayan Sikidar and senior officials, underscoring the state’s push for accelerated grassroots development.
Minister Dass directed all blocks to complete ongoing rural development works within the next 60 to 75 days, stressing that strict adherence to the timeline will be monitored closely. He highlighted the government’s commitment to rural housing, noting that nearly 1.47 lakh beneficiaries in Cachar have already received houses under various schemes, with construction underway for many more. Around Rs 298 crore has been allocated for the mission.

A major focus of the review was the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Gramin), which Dass ordered to be implemented in mission mode with rigorous field-level monitoring. He emphasised transparency and accountability, instructing blocks to submit regular progress reports and hold Gaon Sabhas to validate genuine beneficiaries identified through the Anwesha App survey.
Calling for cohesive coordination among MLAs, district officials and PRI representatives, Dass reiterated the government’s commitment to timely, transparent and citizen-centric rural development in Cachar.
