Guwahati, May 9: Ranoj Pegu on Saturday called for stronger efforts to protect migratory birds and preserve natural habitats on the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day.
In a post on X, the minister said migratory birds play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and are an invaluable part of nature and biodiversity.
“Migratory birds play an important role in protecting the environmental balance of our planet as a valuable asset to our nature and biodiversity,” Pegu said.
Highlighting the long-distance journeys undertaken by migratory birds across continents, he noted that these species travel thousands of kilometres with changing seasons, linking different parts of the world while enriching the natural environment.
The minister urged people to work collectively towards protecting wetlands, forests and other ecosystems that serve as important habitats for migratory species.
On the occasion, Pegu also appealed to citizens to reaffirm their commitment to environmental conservation and help create safe, free and sustainable habitats for migratory birds.
World Migratory Bird Day is observed globally to raise awareness about the conservation of migratory birds and the protection of their habitats, while encouraging collective action towards biodiversity preservation.
