Guwahati: The music fraternity in Assam is mourning the loss of celebrated flutist Dipak Sarma, who passed away after a prolonged illness. Sarma’s demise has left a deep void in the state’s musical community, with fans and fellow musicians paying tribute to his exceptional talent and humble spirit.
In January 2023, Sarma had made a heartfelt appeal on social media seeking public support for an expensive liver surgery. Despite his struggles, he remained optimistic about his recovery, expressing his eagerness to return to playing the flute. The Assam Chief Minister had also intervened to assist with his medical expenses, but unfortunately, Sarma’s health issues persisted.
Sarma’s passing marks the end of an era in Assamese music. He will be remembered for his mastery of the flute and his ability to create soulful melodies that touched the hearts of listeners. His contributions to Assamese music will be cherished for generations to come, and his legacy will continue to inspire aspiring musicians.
