Guwahati: The mortal remains of acclaimed flutist Dipak Sarma, who passed away in Chennai on Monday morning, will be flown to Guwahati today for the last rites. According to family sources, a special chartered flight carrying his body will depart from Chennai around 5 AM and arrive at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.
After arriving in Guwahati, Sarma’s mortal remains will be taken directly to his residence at Ambikagiri Nagar, where the last rites will be performed. The body will then be taken to Seuj Sangha from 10 AM to 2 PM, where fans, cultural organizations, and well-wishers will pay their final respects. Following the public homage, the mortal remains will be taken to the Navagraha crematorium ground for the final rites.
Dipak Sarma, 57, passed away at 6:15 AM in a Chennai hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for several weeks. He was suffering from a rare liver ailment and was earlier admitted to a hospital in Guwahati before being shifted to Chennai for advanced treatment. Sarma’s demise has sent shockwaves across the music fraternity, with many paying tribute to his contribution to Assamese music.
