Retired IAF Officer Held in Assam Over Alleged Links With Pakistani Intelligence

A retired officer of the Indian Air Force has been taken into custody in Assam’s Sonitpur district on suspicion of sharing sensitive information with operatives linked to Pakistan, police said on December 13, triggering fresh concerns over national security and the misuse of digital platforms.

According to the police, the investigation revolves around allegations that the former officer transmitted confidential documents and details through social media channels. Additional superintendent of police Haricharan Bhumij said preliminary findings suggest that the accused was in contact with individuals connected to Pakistani intelligence agencies and had electronically passed on sensitive material.

During the arrest, investigators seized the suspect’s laptop and mobile phone, which have since been sent for forensic examination. Officials said initial checks indicate that some data may have been deleted from the devices, a factor that could complicate the analysis and recovery of evidence.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the investigation is continuing to assess the scale of the alleged information leak and to determine whether any other individuals were involved in the activity. Police said further details would emerge as the probe progresses.
