Fans across Assam have launched an unprecedented campaign to turn Roi Roi Binale into a historic box office success, viewing the film as a final tribute to singer and actor Zubeen Garg, whose untimely death in Singapore last month left the state grieving.
Pre-booking for the film, slated to release on October 31, opened on Thursday evening and saw an overwhelming response. Within hours, most seats in theatres across Guwahati were booked, with only a few scattered tickets remaining on Friday morning, as admirers prepared to honour what many are calling “the last film of our beloved Zubeen da.”
The campaign has now evolved beyond opening-day bookings. Supporters are calling for Roi Roi Binale to be screened permanently in select theatres, drawing parallels with Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir, where Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has been running for nearly three decades.
“If DDLJ can run for over 30 years at Maratha Mandir, we can think of Roi Roi Binale in the same way in Guwahati,” said Subhankar Banerjee, a public relations professional from the city. He has appealed to singer and producer Simanta Shekhar, urging Aideo Cinema Hall to consider an indefinite screening commitment. “If possible, please make this happen,” Banerjee said in his message.
Meanwhile, social media platforms have become the centre of an emotional statewide movement. Posts carrying the message, “Let us make this a historic statement and etch Zubeen da’s name in the annals of Indian cinema,” have gained momentum as fans call for unity in making the film an “All Time Blockbuster.”
For thousands, Roi Roi Binale represents more than a cinematic release. It is seen as a final cultural moment — a chance to celebrate and remember an artist whose voice, personality and creative legacy shaped Assamese music and cinema for more than two decades.
