Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway apprehended six individuals involved in theft of passengers’ belongings during intensified checks across the zone from November 19 to 20. The coordinated operations resulted in the recovery of valuables worth approximately Rs. 1.65 lakh from trains and railway stations in Guwahati and Katihar. All accused have been handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further legal action.
On November 20, a joint operation by the RPF and CPDS team at Katihar railway station led to the arrest of two persons with two stolen mobile phones worth around Rs. 40,000. In another operation the same day, a joint team at Guwahati railway station apprehended one person and recovered two stolen gold rings valued at about Rs. 80,000.

Earlier, on November 19, RPF Katihar (East), CPDS and GRP jointly nabbed a suspect and seized a stolen mobile phone worth nearly Rs. 20,000.
The RPF reported that in October 2025 alone, they arrested 19 persons involved in such crimes and recovered stolen goods including 20 mobile phones worth around Rs. 2.73 lakh. The RPF reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring passenger safety and urged railway users to dial the toll-free helpline number 139 for any assistance during travel.
