Imphal: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is set to arrive in Manipur on November 20 for a three-day visit, marking his first trip to the state since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023. The visit comes as part of the organisation’s centenary celebrations.
RSS state general secretary Tarunkumar Sharma said Bhagwat’s itinerary includes interactions with citizens, entrepreneurs, youth leaders and representatives of Janajati communities. On the day of his arrival, he will attend a programme at Konjeng Leikai in Imphal to meet entrepreneurs and prominent personalities, followed by a separate interaction with tribal leaders from the hill districts on November 21.
RSS functionaries confirmed that there are no plans for Bhagwat to visit relief camps, where thousands displaced by the violence have been staying for nearly two years. They clarified that the purpose of the visit is primarily organisational.
Manipur has remained tense since clashes between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities erupted last year, leading to over 260 deaths and large-scale displacement. The state has been under President’s Rule, with the assembly in suspended animation following the resignation of former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
