Abhijit Chaliha, Guwahati: After days of speculation and controversy, AM Television Chairman and Managing Director Sanjive Narain has issued a detailed statement addressing allegations surrounding the tragic death of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore.
Describing the claims as “malicious, painful, and deeply unfair,” Narain said he deliberately chose silence between September 19 and 23 to allow the state to mourn. “Zubeen was like family to me. It would have been wrong to speak before his last rites. But the lies spread in the meantime hurt me and my family beyond measure,” he said.

Refuting viral claims that he hosted a private party in Singapore on September 18, Narain clarified that he was in Guwahati attending the premiere of Shaheed Pranam Tumak before leaving for Kolkata and then Singapore later that night. He presented travel documents and boarding passes to support his timeline.
Narain also dismissed allegations of booking the yacht where Zubeen’s fatal accident occurred, saying he only learned of the incident after checking into his Singapore hotel on September 19. He said the yacht trip was organized by a local Assamese community member.

Recalling Zubeen’s final hours, Narain said he rushed to the jetty during CPR attempts and later accompanied him to hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 5:15 pm Singapore time.
Choking back emotion, Narain said conspiracy theories denied him the chance to bid farewell. “This targeted campaign destroyed our dignity at a time when we too were grieving,” he said, directly blaming social media rumours for compounding his pain.
