Barpeta: The “Sardar@150 Unity March” was held in Barpeta today to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, celebrating his pivotal role in uniting the nation. The event was graced by the Guardian Minister of Barpeta and Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Chandra Mohan Patowary, and formed part of the nationwide observance under the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
The programme began with a sapling plantation by the Minister at the District Library premises, symbolising a commitment to environmental conservation. This was followed by a floral tribute to Sardar Patel, joined by officials, students, representatives of organisations, and the public. A vibrant cultural presentation showcasing patriotic songs and traditional dance forms of Assam added colour to the occasion. Participants also took the Nasha Mukti (Drug-Free) Pledge, reinforcing the message of social responsibility and a healthy lifestyle.
In his address, Minister Patowary highlighted Sardar Patel’s enduring legacy of unity and integrity, urging citizens—especially youth—to uphold civic values, protect the environment, and strengthen community harmony. He said the Unity March reflects the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, rooted in empathy, participation, and shared purpose.

Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha noted that the event symbolised collective responsibility in preserving national unity and cultural heritage. He commended the active involvement of students, performers, volunteers, and the public for making the celebration inclusive and meaningful.
Following the programme, Minister Patowary interacted with media representatives at the Circuit House and distributed press kits.
