SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills district administration imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) ahead of a proposed protest rally by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday.
The restriction was imposed in view of the proposed rally and recent incidents of violence in Shillong. Security personnel were deployed at the proposed protest locations, while authorities maintained heightened vigilance across the city.
The administration said the measure was aimed at preventing the gathering of large crowds and maintaining public order and peace during the protest.
Tension continued in Shillong following violence surrounding a KSU rally earlier this week, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of residents and prevent any further escalation.
