Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have destroyed poppy plantations spread over 35 acres across Songlung, Lhangjol, and Waphong villages in Kangpokpi district during two separate anti-narcotics operations this month. The drive was carried out as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign to eradicate drug-related activities.
The latest operation, conducted on November 8 under the jurisdiction of Kangchup Police Station, targeted around five acres of illegal cultivation. During the raid, personnel discovered and seized eight empty cartridges, three fertiliser bags, and poppy seeds near three burnt huts at the site.
Earlier, on November 2, a larger crackdown in the same area led to the destruction of 30 acres of poppy fields. Security teams also dismantled three farm huts and recovered fertiliser bags, two sacks of salt, and two burnt Gypsy vehicles from the location.
Officials commended the coordinated efforts of security personnel in dismantling the illicit cultivation network, noting that such operations are vital to curbing the narcotics trade that threatens public health and youth welfare across the state.
