Security forces in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district destroyed 54 acres of illegal poppy cultivation on 1 December in two coordinated operations.
The first operation targeted plantations between Khoiripok and Sehjang villages under New Keithelmanbi Police Station, where 18 acres of poppy fields and five huts were demolished. Officials also removed fertiliser, spray pumps, chemicals and other materials from the site.
A separate joint operation by security personnel and the Forest Department was carried out in the C. Lamjang hill ranges and adjoining areas under Kangpokpi Police Station. It resulted in the destruction of 36 acres of poppy cultivation along with eleven huts, fourteen bags of fertiliser and nine bags of salt.
Authorities said the sites showed clear evidence of established infrastructure to support illegal cultivation. No details were released on arrests or ongoing investigations.
