Security Forces Make Multiple Arrests in Manipur, Seize Arms and Opium

Imphal, March 16: Security forces carried out a series of operations across Manipur on March 15, arresting a suspected militant, a bank burglary suspect, a man in possession of illegal firearms and another carrying more than one kilogram of opium.

In the most significant operation, forces apprehended a suspected member of the banned outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from the Sawombung Khunjao area under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East.

The arrested individual was identified as Angom Sana Meitei, also known as Shaymchand, 58, a resident of Torbung Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur who was currently residing in Hiyangthang.

In a separate operation at Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West, security personnel arrested Sagolshem Boicha Singh, 42, also known as Tayai, from Sawombung Gate in Imphal East.

Authorities recovered a .32 pistol, two magazines, ten rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card from his possession, suggesting possible involvement in illegal arms activities.

Meanwhile, at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, security personnel seized 1.002 kg of opium from Hefajuddin Mayangmayum, 42, a resident of Komlakhong Makha Leikai. A mobile phone, an Aadhaar card and an ATM card were also recovered from him.

In another incident in Moreh, police arrested Kishan Chauhan, 29, of Moreh Bus Parking, Ngamkhai Veng, after he allegedly broke into the premises of UCO Bank.

Officials said he was caught inside the bank compound and was attempting to steal equipment. Recovered from the site were an audio sound box and an air-conditioning unit stolen in an earlier incident, along with electric batteries and other items.

All four individuals are currently in police custody and further investigations are underway.
