Imphal: Security forces apprehended a suspected militant and seized a cache of weapons during separate counter-insurgency operations in Manipur’s Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts on November 3.
The arrested individual, identified as Khangembam Bijoysana Singh alias Thoiba or Babu, aged 30, was detained at Nongren Awang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East. Authorities confirmed that Singh, a resident of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, was an active member of the banned United Peoples Party of Kangleipak (UPPK). His arrest followed an intelligence-based operation aimed at tracking insurgent activities in the area.
In a simultaneous operation, security personnel carried out extensive searches in forested areas near Loibol village and Charaipandongba Part-I under New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The team recovered two 12-bore rifles, one .22 rifle, a country-made pumpi launcher, a Baofeng radio handset, and 20 live .22 rounds.
Officials stated that both operations were part of intensified efforts to curb the movement and influence of armed groups in the hill and valley regions. Further investigation is underway to trace possible links between the detained insurgent and the recovered weapons.
