Agartala, Feb 19: Authorities have intensified security arrangements across Agartala ahead of the arrival of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on February 19.
A Tripura government official said security personnel had been deployed in large numbers at key locations across the city to ensure strict vigilance. Shah is scheduled to attend the Joint Regional Official Language Conference for the Northern and Eastern Regions on February 20 and will stay overnight in Agartala.
Sources indicated that he is also expected to meet Chief Minister Manik Saha, senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and allies from the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura and the Tipra Motha Party later in the evening.
An official said the preparatory meeting was aimed at ensuring comprehensive security arrangements, effective coordination among departments and the smooth conduct of the high-profile visit.
An Advanced Security Liaison meeting was held on February 18 at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and the Hapania International Fair Ground. Senior officials, including West District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Additional SP Dhruv Nath, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Parmita Pandey and Traffic SP Kanta Jangir, participated along with representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Officials reviewed route security, venue protection, traffic diversion plans and emergency response protocols. Authorities said the focus remains on seamless inter-departmental coordination to ensure a secure and incident-free visit amid the high-profile schedule.
