Imphal, Feb 19: An armed group ambushed and assaulted a senior newspaper editor in Imphal East late on February 18, firing at his vehicle before attacking him.
Khoirom Loyalakpa, editor of the local vernacular daily Naharol Thoudang, was targeted near the Hatta cemetery at around 10 pm. Unidentified assailants fired two rounds at his four-wheeler and then confronted and beat him at the scene.
He was admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment. His condition was not officially disclosed.
Police registered a case at Porompat Police Station. No arrests were reported, and the identities and motives of the attackers remained unknown. Further details were awaited.
