Seventeen Years On, Guwahati Still Mourns the Tragic October 30 Blasts

Guwahati: Seventeen years have passed since the tragic and cursed day of 30th October 2008, yet the wounds of that black day continue to haunt Assam. Families of those who lost their loved ones in the devastating serial bomb blasts that ripped through multiple locations across Guwahati still await justice.

The memorial site at Ganeshguri, built in remembrance of the victims, stands in neglect and silence — a forgotten symbol of one of the darkest days in the state’s history. Once meant to honour the memory of the innocent lives lost, the site now reflects the fading attention towards those who continue to bear the pain of that horrific tragedy.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to the victims, recalling the harrowing incident that claimed scores of lives and left hundreds injured. His message served as a solemn reminder of the need to remember and honour the resilience of the survivors and the families affected.

The October 30, 2008 blasts remain one of the deadliest terror attacks Assam has ever witnessed — a coordinated assault that shattered peace, destroyed families, and left an indelible scar on the collective memory of the people of the state.
