Entertainment, Jan 8: Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has confirmed his relationship with Brazilian actor Bruna Marquezine after the two were spotted sharing affectionate moments during a casual grocery trip in Los Angeles, effectively ending weeks of speculation about their status.
Photographs from the outing showed the pair appearing comfortable and close, hugging and leaning into each other as they shopped. Dressed in relaxed, everyday clothing, Mendes was seen wrapping his arms around Marquezine, with both smiling and seemingly unconcerned about being seen in public.
Rumours of a romance began circulating last month when Mendes and Marquezine were spotted spending time together in Brazil during the holiday season. The sightings marked Mendes’ first openly visible relationship since he was linked to reality television personality Charlie Travers in 2023. Marquezine, who gained international recognition with her role in Blue Beetle, was previously in a high-profile, on-and-off relationship with Brazilian football star Neymar between 2013 and 2018.
Mendes has largely kept his personal life out of the spotlight since his split from fellow pop star Camila Cabello in 2021, following a two-year relationship that briefly resurfaced in 2023. He has also spoken candidly about the pressures of public scrutiny, notably addressing speculation about his sexuality during a concert in November 2024. At the time, he described sexuality as deeply personal and complex, saying he was still learning about himself and wanted the freedom to live authentically.
“The truth is that I didn’t get to do a lot of 15-year-old things and discover parts of myself,” Mendes told the audience, adding that constant public speculation often felt intrusive.
