Shillong, May 20: Shillong is set to once again celebrate its enduring connection with music icon Bob Dylan as the city prepares to host the 55th edition of Bob Dylan’s Day on May 24. The long-running tribute event will bring together musicians and music enthusiasts for a celebration dedicated to Dylan’s legacy and artistic influence.
Organised by the The Lou Majaw Foundation, this year’s programme will feature performances by veteran musician Lou Majaw along with Reuben Z Lyngdoh, Christopher Dylan Majaw, Phrangsngi Wahlang and Diaclezziana Melbie M Nongrum.
Organisers have arranged the celebration in two separate sessions. The first segment will take place between 4 pm and 6 pm at Khyndailad in Police Bazar, while the evening programme is scheduled from 6 pm to 9 pm at Cafe Shillong.
Designed as a public gathering rather than a conventional ticketed concert, the event will focus on live performances and poetry inspired by Dylan’s work. Organisers have also emphasised the open-air format of the programme, a reflection of Shillong’s long-standing musical traditions and its enduring association with Dylan’s influence.
Known for its strong rock and folk music culture, Shillong has over the years built a distinct identity as one of India’s leading music hubs. Lou Majaw’s annual Bob Dylan tribute has evolved into one of the city’s most recognised and enduring cultural traditions.
