Chirang: Local residents expressed joy as the distance mail train made its scheduled stoppage at Basugaon railway station, following joint efforts by various parties and organisations under the leadership of Assam Pradesh Shiv Sena leader Shibu Chanda.
Although the train arrived later than expected at around 10 p.m., members of Shiv Sena, Sarvashakti Sena, E-Rickshaw Union, Traders’ Association, and local residents turned out in large numbers to welcome it. Railway officials and employees present at the station were felicitated for their support in making the stoppage possible.

Speaking to reporters, Shiv Sena leader Shibu Chanda expressed satisfaction over the achievement and assured that he would approach higher railway authorities to ensure stoppages of other express trains at Basugaon, Salakati, and Chautara stations to meet the needs of local commuters.
Chanda highlighted that the stoppage of the Kanchenjunga Express at Basugaon will particularly benefit residents of Bidyapur, Dholmara, Dhantola, Kashikotra, Runikhata, and even areas near the Bhutan border, such as Dadgiri.

He added that the initiative reflects the collective will of the people and the importance of improving regional connectivity to boost trade, mobility, and socio-economic opportunities in the area.
