Guwahati: In a significant development in the investigation into the death of singer-actor Zubeen Garg, accused Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma are scheduled to appear before the court today. The two have been under custody as part of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe led by the Assam Police.
Sources indicate that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) may also move to take both Mahanta and Sharma into police custody for questioning in connection with its ongoing investigation into financial irregularities linked to the case. The development comes amid growing scrutiny over possible monetary transactions and links uncovered during the SIT’s investigation.
Mahanta, a well-known event organizer, and Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s manager, were arrested earlier under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as part of the probe into the circumstances surrounding the artist’s mysterious death.
The SIT, meanwhile, continues to collect evidence and record witness statements, including testimonies from Assamese NRIs who were present during the Singapore yacht party where Zubeen Garg was last seen alive. The case has drawn widespread attention across Assam, with public demand for a transparent and conclusive investigation intensifying by the day.
