Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Governor Om Prakash Mathur inspected the newly constructed Helen Lepcha Sikkim Government Medical College ahead of the start of its inaugural academic session, marking a key step towards opening the state’s new medical institution.
The visit focused on preparations to welcome the first batch of students and reflected the state government’s efforts to expand medical education and strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Sikkim.
During the visit, the bust of Helen Lepcha and the official logo of the medical college were unveiled. The bust honoured Lepcha’s legacy, while the logo marked the beginning of a new chapter for medical education in the state.
With the institution nearing operational readiness, the medical college is expected to provide students with opportunities to pursue medical education within Sikkim while contributing to the development of the state’s healthcare infrastructure and local medical workforce.
