Sikkim CM Mourns Demise of Indian Idol Winner Prashant Tamang, Calls Him an Enduring Source of Inspiration

Gangtok, Jan 12: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on January 11 expressed profound sorrow over the death of noted actor-singer Prashant Tamang, remembering him as a rare blend of talent, humility and determination whose journey continues to inspire people across generations. Tamang, who shot to national fame after winning Indian Idol Season 3 and later established himself in Hindi cinema, passed away in New Delhi following a cardiac arrest. He was 43.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister recalled Tamang’s remarkable life story, describing it as a testament to resilience and hard work. Before entering the entertainment industry, Prashant Tamang had served as a constable with the Kolkata Police, a transition CM Tamang described as extraordinary and deeply motivating for young people from modest backgrounds.

The Chief Minister said Tamang’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming a nationally celebrated artist reflected the true spirit of perseverance. He noted that Tamang’s success not only brought immense pride to Sikkim but also helped place the state firmly on India’s cultural landscape, inspiring countless aspiring artists from the region.

Highlighting his melodious voice, simplicity and strong connection with his roots, CM Tamang said Prashant Tamang was loved not just for his music and performances but also for his genuine affection for his people. He termed the actor-singer’s passing an irreparable loss for his family, friends and admirers across the country.

Extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister prayed for strength and courage to help them cope with the immense loss. He also wished eternal peace for the departed soul, adding that Prashant Tamang’s legacy would continue to live on through his music and the inspiration he leaves behind.
