Sikkim Government Declares Thursdays as ‘Traditional Wear Work Day’ to Celebrate Cultural Heritage

Gangtok: The Government of Sikkim has announced that all officers and staff of government departments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and banks under the state administration will observe “Traditional Wear Work Day” every Thursday.

As per a circular issued by the Home Department, the initiative seeks to celebrate and promote the state’s rich cultural diversity and traditional heritage that form the essence of Sikkim’s identity.

Signed by Chief Secretary R. Telang (IAS), the notification highlights the importance of fostering pride and unity among employees by embracing traditional attire at the workplace. With immediate effect, all employees have been encouraged to wear traditional clothing every Thursday as a reflection of Sikkim’s cultural mosaic.

The move reaffirms the government’s commitment to preserving Sikkim’s heritage while strengthening a collective sense of belonging and respect for indigenous traditions within the state workforce.
