GANGTOK: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Saturday extended greetings to teachers on Teachers’ Day, highlighting their contribution to education, character building and social development.
In his message, Mathur said teachers’ role went beyond imparting academic knowledge, as they also helped inculcate moral values among young people and prepared them to become responsible citizens and future leaders.
He also congratulated teachers who received national and state-level awards, saying the recognition reflected their integrity, hard work and dedication to education.
Chief Minister Tamang extended greetings to teachers across the world, with special appreciation for educators in Sikkim. He said teachers played an important role in shaping individuals and, consequently, society through their knowledge, guidance, patience and dedication.
Tamang also recalled that Teachers’ Day commemorated the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the noted scholar, educationist and former President of India, whose life reflected the transformative role of education.
He called for recognition of teachers’ contributions and expressed gratitude for their lasting influence on students and society.
