Sikkim Highlights Livestock and Fisheries Initiatives at North East Regional Review Meet in Aizawl

Gangtok, May 25: A Sikkim delegation took part in the Regional Review Meeting for the North East Region organised by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying in Aizawl on May 25, where developmental priorities and sectoral challenges across northeastern states were discussed.

The meeting, held at the High Court Hall of the New Capital Complex (MINECO), was chaired by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh, in the presence of George Kurian. Senior officials from the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), the Department of Fisheries under the Government of India, and representatives from various states also attended the session.

The Sikkim team was jointly headed by Dr Sharman Rai, Secretary of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, and Roshni Rai, Secretary of the Fisheries Department. Other members of the delegation included Dr Pem T. Bhutia, Additional Director of AH&VS, Dr Pratik Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of the Sikkim Livestock Development Board, and Surendra Bhandari, Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department.

During the discussions, participants reviewed developmental activities and key issues concerning animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries sectors across the region. The Sikkim delegation presented details of the state’s ongoing initiatives, achievements and future proposals aimed at strengthening livestock development, enhancing dairy infrastructure and promoting fisheries.

Officials said the platform also enabled inter-state coordination and facilitated a review of centrally sponsored schemes and programmes being implemented across the North East.
