Sikkim MP Urges NHIDCL to Strengthen NH-10 Connectivity

Gangtok: Sikkim’s Lok Sabha MP, Indra Hang Subba, met the Chairman and Managing Director of NHIDCL in New Delhi on Monday to discuss pressing concerns regarding National Highway-10 (NH-10), the vital link connecting Sikkim to the rest of India.

Subba highlighted the recurring damages and disruptions along the highway, which often affect the movement of people and essential supplies. He emphasized the need for long-term solutions to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and inquired about proposals for a new or alternative alignment, urging the NHIDCL to expedite the preparation and approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The MP also suggested strengthening vulnerable stretches along the existing route to prevent landslides during the next monsoon and requested the deployment of additional machinery and manpower to enhance road resilience.

In response, NHIDCL’s Technical Director said plans are underway to construct viaducts and steel structures to bypass landslide-prone areas affected during the recent monsoon, with completion targeted before the next season.

The meeting concluded with the NHIDCL CMD assuring that necessary measures will be taken to improve NH-10 connectivity, ensuring safer and smoother travel for residents and the movement of goods to and from Sikkim.
