Sikkim Official Flags Safety Risks at Tikjek Cliff, Orders Immediate Preventive Measures

Gangtok, April 19: Tenzing D Denzongpa, District Collector of Gyalshing in Sikkim, conducted a comprehensive inspection of safety arrangements at Tikjek Cliff, highlighting serious concerns over potential threats to public safety.

The inspection was carried out in the presence of officials from multiple departments, including SE Power JP Subba, RTO Ram Hang Subba, SDM Sandesh Subba, DE Roads and Bridges Santosh Singh and AE PMGSY Om Prakash Gurung, along with local Panchayat representatives. Following the assessment, the District Collector directed authorities to urgently introduce safety measures such as installation of protective barriers, street lighting, road reflectors, proper signage and milestones to mitigate risks at the site.

Emphasising the need for prompt action, he instructed concerned engineers to prepare and submit project estimates at the earliest, stating that necessary steps would be taken without delay to ensure public safety.

During the visit, Denzongpa also reviewed the 18/Lingchom-Tikjya Gram Panchayat Unit and assured full administrative support to local representatives in addressing area-specific concerns.

On his return, he inspected operations at the Indane–Kunphen Gas Agency, focusing on the distribution of LPG cylinders amid an ongoing supply crisis. Taking note of public grievances, he initiated communication with the Indane Oil distributor at Bageykhola, urging immediate intervention to streamline supply and address shortages on priority.
