Sikkim to Host First International Agro Tourism Festival with Participation from India, Nepal and Bhutan

Gangtok, June 4: Sikkim is set to host its first International Agro Tourism Festival from June 13 to 15, 2026, bringing together participants from India, Nepal and Bhutan in a major initiative aimed at promoting agriculture-linked tourism and cross-border cultural exchange.

The three-day festival will be organised across three districts and three constituencies of the state, reflecting Sikkim’s focus on expanding its agro-tourism footprint while showcasing its rural heritage and agricultural diversity.

The event is being jointly organised by the Tourist Development Societies of Rhenock Constituency, Martam-Rumtek Constituency and Temi-Tarku Constituency.

According to organisers, the festival is designed to promote sustainable tourism practices, strengthen regional cultural ties, and generate new livelihood opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the tourism sector. Delegations comprising agricultural experts, tourism professionals and cultural groups from the three participating countries are expected to take part.

The programme will include agro-tourism exhibitions, cultural performances, traditional cuisine showcases, farm-based experiential activities, and discussions focused on rural tourism development and sustainability.

Organisers said the initiative is expected to serve as a milestone for Sikkim’s tourism sector by integrating agriculture with experiential travel, while reinforcing community-based tourism models and fostering international cooperation in the Himalayan region.
