Sikkim to Host High-Altitude Supercar Rally Under Defence Ministry’s ‘Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan’ Initiative

Sikkim is preparing for a rare automotive showcase as 17 world-class supercars, including Lamborghinis and Porsches, get ready to take on the state’s challenging mountain terrain from 12 to 15 December. Officials confirmed on Tuesday that the thrilling expedition will form part of the Ministry of Defence’s ‘Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan’ initiative, designed to promote battlefield and border tourism across the country.

The rally will begin at Sukna in West Bengal on 12 December, where the convoy will be flagged off before moving through the Siliguri–Gangtok–Cho La–Nathu La–Gnathang–Zuluk circuit. The self-driven, self-funded drive will expose participants to steep ascents, narrow bends and high-altitude passes, offering a dramatic journey through some of India’s most strategic frontier landscapes.

Organised by the Mumbai-based Super Car Route Group, the expedition is being supported by the Indian Army’s Black Cat Division under the Trishakti Corps as well as the Government of Sikkim. Authorities hope the event will position the state as a premier destination for extreme adventure driving and niche tourism.

One of the most striking points along the route is the 5,420-metre-high Cho La pass, a location of strategic significance from the 1967 Indo-China clashes. The site has in recent years drawn increasing interest from travellers seeking battlefield tourism experiences, adding to the rally’s appeal.

In anticipation of the event, the state government has announced temporary traffic restrictions along NH-10, Sikkim’s lifeline highway. Heavy vehicles will be barred from the 52-km Sevoke–Rangpo stretch between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. on 12 December, and again from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on 15 December to facilitate the smooth movement of the convoy.

With its combination of high-performance machines and Himalayan terrain, the upcoming rally is expected to draw national attention and mark a new chapter in Sikkim’s adventure tourism landscape.
