Sikkim Weather Forecast: Light Rain and Snowfall Likely Only Over Mangan; Rest of State to Stay Mostly Dry

Gangtok, Feb 20: Light rain and snowfall at higher altitudes are forecast mainly over parts of Mangan district in the coming days, while the rest of Sikkim is expected to remain largely dry, according to the latest outlook from the Meteorological Centre in Gangtok.

The weather office said that no significant weather warnings have been issued for the next seven days, signalling generally stable conditions across most districts. A cyclonic circulation that had developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal on February 13–14 weakened by February 15, and data up to February 19, including surface and upper air observations, have informed the current forecast.

In its seven-day district-wise forecast, the met centre highlighted Mangan as the most likely area to experience light precipitation. Light rain and snowfall at higher reaches are expected at one or two places on the first day, with similar activity later in the week. Nearby Pakyong may also see light precipitation at elevated altitudes around the sixth day of the forecast period. Meanwhile, Gangtok, Gyalshing, Namchi and Soreng are predicted to remain mainly dry throughout the week.

A broader two-week outlook from February 20 to March 5 suggests predominantly dry weather in the first week. During the second week, maximum temperatures are expected to be normal to slightly above normal, while minimum temperatures remain within the usual seasonal range. Rainfall is anticipated to be near normal overall, but largely limited to isolated areas.

The next weekly weather review for Sikkim is scheduled to be released on February 26, 2026.
