GUWAHATI, Oct 3: Singapore-based Assamese expatriate Rupkamal Kalita appeared before a fast-track court on Saturday to record his statement as a witness in the trial into the death of singer Zubeen Garg.

Kalita, who is associated with the Assam Association Singapore, was among those present on the yacht during the outing involving Garg on September 19, 2025. He had earlier appeared before the Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) during the probe.

His court appearance formed part of the ongoing recording of witness testimony and examination of evidence concerning the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death.

Kalita is also the brother-in-law of Amritprabha Mahanta, who has been named in connection with the case. He was earlier summoned by the Assam CID-SIT and questioned during the investigation.

The testimony of people present on the yacht is being recorded as the court examines the sequence of events surrounding Garg’s death. The proceedings will continue with the recording of witness statements and examination of evidence placed before the court.
