Guwahati: The Singapore Police Force (SPF) on Thursday said that no foul play is suspected so far in the death of singer Zubeen Garg, even as investigations continue under the Singapore Coroners Act, 2010. Officials said the probe remains active, and findings will be submitted to the State Coroner once complete. A Coroner’s Inquiry, meant to establish the cause and circumstances of the death, has been scheduled for January–February 2026.
The SPF urged the public to avoid speculation and spreading unverified claims, assuring that a thorough investigation is underway. Meanwhile, in Assam, controversy deepened after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing Garg’s death lodged a complaint with the Assam Police Crime Branch against Akhil Gogoi, accusing him of circulating unverified documents allegedly linked to the charge sheet. Officials said publication of such material is illegal and may mislead the public.

The nine-member SIT, led by Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, submitted its charge sheet to the Kamrup (Metro) CJM Court on December 12, but legal sources said certified copies have not been released publicly yet and are available only to the accused and their families.
SIT officer Rosie Kalita has sought an FIR against Gogoi; the matter is being examined. Gogoi responded on social media, saying he would face any case despite being unwell. The SIT has charged Garg’s secretary Siddhartha Sharma, organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta with murder, while Garg’s cousin Sandipan Garg, a suspended police officer, faces culpable homicide. Two personal security officers have been charged with criminal conspiracy and breach of trust involving misappropriated funds, alongside additional charges of conspiracy, extortion, cheating and evidence destruction against several accused.
