SIT Shuts Down Siddharth Sharma’s Packaged Water Factory

Guwahati: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the mysterious death of celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has sealed a packaged drinking water factory following an intensive eight-hour raid on Sunday. The facility, Mahavir Aqua, located within the Soigaon Industrial Development Centre, was ordered shut as part of the expanding investigation.

According to officials, the factory was purchased about a year ago by Siddharth Sharma — Garg’s manager and a key suspect in the case. Although Sharma owns the unit, investigators said it had remained non-operational since its acquisition and bore no visible nameplate.

Sharma is currently in police custody, facing grave non-bailable charges, including criminal conspiracy, murder, and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

What was initially reported as a tragic accident in Singapore — where Garg, 52, reportedly drowned during a swimming mishap on September 19 — has since taken a dramatic turn. The CID recently disclosed that viscera test results from the Central Forensic Laboratory in Delhi have provided a “definite angle” to the investigation, suggesting possible foul play.

The SIT has also unearthed suspicious financial activity, including transactions exceeding ₹1 crore in the bank accounts of two of Garg’s security personnel. Authorities believe these findings could be crucial to uncovering the motive behind the singer’s untimely death.
