Guwahati: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of singer Zubeen Garg has summoned actor Partha Hazarika for questioning amid growing social media allegations linking him to the case.
Hazarika, known to have shared close ties with both Zubeen and his wife Garima Saikia Garg, is alleged to have blackmailed the late musician — a claim that has gained traction online though remains unverified by officials.
The summons marks a significant development in the high-profile inquiry, which has gathered pace after Singapore authorities forwarded Zubeen Garg’s post-mortem and toxicology reports to the Assam Police.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also holds the Home portfolio, confirmed on October 31 that the documents were received under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT). “When our SIT visited Singapore, the authorities there had assured full cooperation. Today, they have formally sent the post-mortem and toxicology reports, along with the required guidelines,” Sarma said.
Zubeen Garg, 52, died while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19. His death sparked widespread grief and public outcry in Assam. Since then, the 10-member SIT has arrested seven individuals, all of whom remain in judicial custody.
Expressing confidence in the investigation, Sarma said, “The SIT is absolutely confident about ensuring justice for Zubeen. When it submits the chargesheet by December 17, people will appreciate their work.”
