Situation Calm in Nagaland’s Moava Village After Clash Leaves 26 Injured

Kohima, Feb 15: The situation in violence-affected Moava village in Chumoukedima district remained under control on February 14, with no fresh incidents reported amid heightened security deployment, police officials said.

At least 26 people were injured in a clash that broke out on February 13 in the village under Medziphema sub-division. The violence was reportedly triggered by a long-standing land dispute and involved local villagers and members of the Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO).

Security personnel have since been deployed in and around the area to prevent further escalation. Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored to ensure law and order is maintained.

Moava Village Council chairman Sutminlal Vaiphei told the media that efforts are underway to resolve the matter through dialogue and mutual understanding. He clarified that the clash stemmed from a dispute over a specific plot of land and maintained that there was no intention to obstruct developmental activities in the area.

Police have appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours and cooperate with authorities to maintain peace and prevent any recurrence of violence.
