Sivasagar Athlete Wins Gold at Asian Para Youth Games

Sivasagar: Assam is celebrating a remarkable sporting triumph after Anishmita Konwar of Bokata 1 No. Konwar Gaon in Sivasagar district returned home with a gold medal from the International Youth Asian Para Games in Dubai. Locals turned out in large numbers today to welcome her warmly at Simluguri and her native village, hailing her achievement as a matter of pride for the entire region.

Competing against athletes from 45 countries, Anishmita struck gold in the long jump (T-44 category). She further boosted India’s performance with a silver in the 100-metre sprint and a bronze in the 200 metres — an unprecedented three-medal haul for the country at the event.

Her feat stands out not only for its scale but for her personal journey. Though physically able-bodied, Anishmita rose to the international stage of the Asian Para Games and contributed to India’s overall tally of 56 medals, including 19 golds.

As celebrations sweep through Bokata and neighbouring areas, residents say her success will inspire a new generation of athletes from Assam to dream big on the global stage.
