SIVASAGAR: Employees of the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner’s office staged a protest on August 21 against Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, alleging that he misbehaved with the district commissioner during a meeting a day earlier.
The employees wore black bands around their heads and observed a work boycott to register their protest against the MLA’s alleged conduct towards the district commissioner.
The protest followed Gogoi’s criticism of the district administration over alleged delays in distributing government relief to flood-affected people in Sivasagar.
During a meeting with the district commissioner on August 20, Gogoi questioned the administration over the delay in providing financial assistance to affected residents and insisted that beneficiaries receive the relief before officials leave the area.
Gogoi also urged the administration to ensure timely distribution of government assistance, saying negligence in providing relief to flood-affected people would not be tolerated.
The incident prompted employees of the Deputy Commissioner’s office to protest, objecting to what they described as the MLA’s alleged misbehaviour with the district commissioner.
The employees are expected to hold a meeting to decide their further course of action. Gogoi has repeatedly raised concerns over alleged delays and lapses in the distribution of flood relief in Sivasagar and criticised the district administration and state government over the issue.
