Sivasagar Seat Still Under Discussion, Says Himanta Biswa Sarma; Targets Akhil Gogoi Over Alliance Politics

Guwahati, March 6: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, said on March 6 that the ruling alliance has not yet finalised its candidate for the Sivasagar Assembly constituency, even as he launched a pointed attack on Akhil Gogoi over what he described as “alliance drama” ahead of the elections.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance is still holding discussions regarding the candidate for the Sivasagar seat. According to him, both the BJP and its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad, have potential contenders seeking the nomination, which has led to ongoing deliberations within the alliance.

The Chief Minister stated that the matter remains unresolved as leaders from both parties continue to stake their claim for the constituency. He noted that the alliance is currently evaluating the situation before arriving at a final decision on who will contest from the seat.

Sarma also criticised Gogoi, the leader of the Raijor Dal, accusing him of orchestrating what he called a “drama of alliance-building” in the run-up to the elections. He alleged that such political manoeuvres are likely to continue until the last day permitted for the withdrawal of nomination papers.

“Do not trust Akhil Gogoi when it comes to alliances. The drama will continue till the last day of nomination withdrawal,” the Chief Minister said while responding to questions from the media.

His remarks come at a time when political activity in Assam is intensifying, with parties and alliances engaged in negotiations over seat-sharing arrangements and candidate selection for several key constituencies across the state.
