Six Killed, Two Critically Injured in Ambulance–Truck Collision in Assam’s Sonitpur

Udalguri-Sonitpur, March 23: At least six people were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after an ambulance collided with a truck in Sonitpur district on Sunday night, March 22, police said.

The accident took place on National Highway 15 under the Dhekiajuli police station area when the ambulance, carrying a patient along with family members, was on its way to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.

Sonitpur Senior Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayasta confirmed that six persons died on the spot, while the two injured were shifted to the hospital in critical condition.

Officials said the collision was severe, leaving the ambulance extensively damaged and resulting in multiple fatalities at the scene. Police and emergency teams reached the spot soon after the incident and carried out rescue operations.

Authorities later cleared the highway to restore traffic movement and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
