Manipur Police intensified their crackdown on militant activity on December 13, carrying out coordinated raids across Imphal West and Imphal East districts that led to the arrest of six active cadres associated with three proscribed outfits. The operations also resulted in the recovery of firearms, ammunition, mobile phones and other materials used for extortion and communication.
The largest seizure was made in the Canchipur area under Singjamei police station in Imphal West, where two active members of PREPAK (PRO) were taken into custody. The arrested individuals were identified as 21-year-old Kshetrimayum Abinash Singh from Kakching district and 31-year-old Rajkumar Daniel Singh, also known by several aliases, from Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai. From their possession, security personnel recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine loaded with 12 rounds, two rounds of .38 ammunition, three mobile phones and a two-wheeler.
In a separate action, another PREPAK (PRO) cadre, Thangjam Priyobarta Singh, 35, a resident of Kumbi Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district, was arrested from his residence. Police said he was actively involved in the outfit’s operations.
Meanwhile, in Imphal East district, two women cadres linked to UNLF (Koireng) were apprehended from Moirangkampu Sajeb Makha Leikai under Porompat police station. The arrested women, both aged 19, were identified as Takhellambam Sanathoi Chanu and Kongbrailakpam Rameshori Devi, who were allegedly operating under multiple aliases. Two mobile phones were seized during the arrest.
Another operation in Imphal West led to the detention of an active UNLF (P) extortionist from Lamphel Super Market under Lamphel police station. The accused, 46-year-old Karam Manikanta Singh, also known as Amuba or MK Khuman, was found in possession of two mobile phones, a wallet containing his PAN card and cash amounting to Rs 1,020.
Police officials said the arrests were part of sustained efforts to dismantle extortion networks and weaken the operational capabilities of banned militant groups in the valley districts. Further investigation is ongoing to trace links, recover additional materials and identify other individuals connected to these activities.
