Tamarhat: In a shocking and tragic incident, a mother was brutally killed by her own son at Paglaganj village under the jurisdiction of Paglahat Police Watch Post and Tamarhat Police Station in Assam’s Dhubri district on Monday. The horrific crime has sent waves of grief and outrage across the Paglahat area.
According to reports, the incident unfolded just hours after the death of Dulal Roy, a resident of Paglaganj village, who had passed away earlier in the day while undergoing treatment at Dhubri Medical College and Hospital. Later in the afternoon, his body was brought home for the final rites. Amid the sorrowful atmosphere, a heated argument broke out between Dulal’s wife, Shefali Roy, and their son, Boloram Roy.

As the altercation escalated, Boloram allegedly attacked his mother with a sharp weapon, inflicting severe injuries. Neighbours, shocked by the sudden violence, rushed to her aid and immediately took her to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. However, despite the doctors’ efforts, Shefali Roy succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Upon receiving information, a police team from the Paglahat Police Watch Post arrived at the scene, arrested the accused son, and took him into custody. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

A heart-wrenching scene gripped the village — the father’s lifeless body lay in the courtyard awaiting last rites, the mother’s body remained at the hospital, and their son stood handcuffed at the police outpost. The brutal act has left the entire locality in disbelief, mourning the double tragedy that struck the Roy family in a single day.
