Sualkuchi, June 2: The historic Soneswar Atai Swimming Training Centre was formally inaugurated for the 2026–27 session in Assam’s Sualkuchi, marking the revival of the facility aimed at training local youth in swimming and aquatic sports.
The centre was inaugurated by Hajo–Sualkuchi MLA Prakash Chandra Das, who attended the event and officially opened the facility during a ceremonial programme held in the textile town.
The inauguration began in a solemn and spiritual atmosphere, with Rajeev Lochan Santa, the Burha Satradhikar of Ishwar Shri Shri Hati Satra, lighting the ceremonial lamp and offering prayers for the success of the training initiative. Several local dignitaries were also present at the event.
Among those in attendance was Hemanta Choudhury, President of the Management Committee of the Soneswar Atai Swimming Training Centre and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, who encouraged the trainees and welcomed the reopening of the centre.
The management committee expressed confidence that the training centre will not only help children and teenagers learn swimming but will also serve as a platform for nurturing future sportspersons from the region.
Officials further confirmed that the admission process for the new session has already commenced, with the centre expected to begin structured training activities shortly.
