Tezpur: The District Administration, Sonitpur, in collaboration with My Bharat, successfully organized the Sardar@150 – Unity March (PadYatra) on Saturday to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his monumental contribution to the unity and integrity of India.
The event commenced early morning at Church Field, Tezpur, where students, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and members of the SSB assembled to take part in the march. The programme was graced by MP of Sonitpur HPC Ranjit Dutta, Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava, District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, and other dignitaries including ADC Twahir Alam, ADC Jintu Bora, Vice Chairman of AMTRON Ritu Baran Sarmah, ASP Moushumi Kalita and Satkhokai Changsan, Chairperson of Tezpur Municipal Board Ramen Tamuli, and several noted social workers and officials.

The ceremony began with a floral tribute to Sardar Patel, followed by a band performance by students of Sacred Heart School. In his address, MP Ranjit Dutta highlighted Sardar Patel’s historic role in unifying the nation and urged the youth to carry forward his ideals. As part of the event, dignitaries also participated in a plantation drive, planting Nahor saplings to symbolize growth and harmony.
The Unity March, flagged off by MP Dutta from Church Field, covered key city points including Court Chariali, Civil Hospital Chariali, and Tribeni Point, before returning to the starting venue. Adding colour and enthusiasm, patriotic dance performances coordinated by the District Cultural Development Officer were staged along the route.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth volunteers, and officials. It was coordinated by District Sports Officer Pranjal Dehingia, District Information & Public Relations Officer Ankita Gogoi, and District Youth Officer (My Bharat) Kamal Tripathi, among others.
The Unity March stood as a fitting tribute to the Iron Man of India, reaffirming the spirit of national unity, integrity, and patriotism among the people of Sonitpur.
