ST Department Raids J Infratech Ltd. Over ₹35 Crore Tax Evasion Allegation

Dhubri: The State GST Department’s Enforcement Unit has intensified its crackdown on J Infratech Limited, a Gurugram-based construction firm, over alleged tax evasion worth around ₹35 crore. The raid, now continuing for the third consecutive day, is being carried out at the company’s premises in Pratapganj, Dhubri.

J Infratech Ltd., formerly known as Jandu Construction India Pvt. Ltd., is presently executing the Four-Lane Highway Project 127B, connecting Srirampur to Dhubri, one of Assam’s most significant infrastructure undertakings.

An 11-member team from the GST Enforcement Unit, Guwahati, is spearheading the operation, which has reportedly unearthed major irregularities indicating large-scale financial malpractice. According to sources, the investigation is focusing on two key areas — fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims and unreported movement of goods.

Officials suspect the company availed bogus ITC using fabricated invoices without actual supply of goods or services — a common method of defrauding the exchequer. The probe has also detected unauthorized transportation of construction materials without mandatory e-waybills, pointing to attempts at concealing taxable transactions.

Sources further confirmed that Mohit Jandu, one of the firm’s Managing Directors, has come under the scanner for alleged financial discrepancies revealed during the search.

Officials said the operation is part of a data-driven statewide crackdown targeting tax evasion by infrastructure and works contractors, particularly those engaged in government-funded projects. The investigation is expected to continue over the next few days as the department works to determine the scale of the evasion and collect evidence necessary for potential prosecution.
