Staff Nurse recruitment in Nongstoin put on hold as inquiry seeks complaints, evidence

The West Khasi Hills district administration has invited shortlisted candidates for Staff Nurse recruitment at MCH Hospital, Nongstoin, to report any alleged irregularities in the selection process, with an inquiry committee examining allegations of bribery, coercion, extortion and other misconduct.

The two-member committee has asked candidates who faced demands for money, coercion or attempts to influence their selection to record statements or submit written complaints. They may also provide supporting evidence such as audio or video recordings, message logs and details of financial transactions.

Statements will be recorded from October 5 to 9, 2026, between 10 am and 4 pm at Room No. 108 of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Nongstoin. The administration said the identities and testimonies of candidates appearing before the committee would be kept confidential.

The inquiry follows a disruption during the Staff Nurse interviews on September 29. The administration had earlier received a representation from the VPP State Youth Wing and ordered the inquiry on September 30.

The committee comprises West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police H Kharkongor and Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate E Lyngdoh. No result or final selection list will be declared until the inquiry is completed.

The recruitment is for contractual Staff Nurse posts at MCH Hospital, Nongstoin. A written examination was held on September 21, following which 60 candidates were shortlisted for interviews on September 29 and 30. The administration had stated that selection would be based solely on written examination and interview performance and that candidates were not required to pay money at any stage.

The inquiry was also prompted by an incident in which an MDC from Nongstoin allegedly entered the interview hall without permission and raised his voice at the selection board, disrupting the proceedings. The administration has since warned candidates against approaching touts or middlemen and urged anyone receiving money demands or facing attempts to influence the recruitment to report the matter with supporting evidence.
