Guwahati, June 15: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam busted an alleged drug trafficking operation in the Amingaon area and arrested three suspected smugglers, including two women, while preventing the movement of a large quantity of heroin towards Lower Assam.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak after the STF received specific intelligence regarding the transportation of narcotics. Acting swiftly on the inputs, personnel intercepted a passenger vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 KC 0971, popularly known as “Jumon Suman”, which was reportedly travelling towards Lower Assam.
During a thorough search, the STF recovered a sizeable quantity of heroin and apprehended three individuals identified as Asmina Parbin, Mehrun Nessa Khatun and Mohammad Somez Ali.
Investigators found that the accused had allegedly attempted to evade detection by concealing the contraband on their bodies. However, a detailed examination by the STF led to the recovery of the narcotics and the successful completion of the operation.
Officials said preliminary findings suggested that the accused could be part of a wider network involved in the movement of heroin into Lower Assam. Further investigation and interrogation are in progress to determine the source of the contraband and identify other persons who may be linked to the racket.
